Euro Atomic Force Microscopy Forum

April 27, 2009

Asylum Research, in conjunction with IMETUM, Nano Initiative Munich, and Atomic Force F&E, announces the 2nd Euro AFM Forum to be held at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Garching, Germany, July 1-3, 2009. The event is a conference for AFM researchers to share their cutting-edge research for both materials and life science applications. The forum will combine invited and contributed talks from leading European researchers as well as instructional workshops on AFM equipment. Workshop topics include cell imaging, imaging in liquids, force spectroscopy, electrical characterization and more.
Participants are invited to submit their best AFM image for the Forum Image Contest. An iPod Nano will be awarded for the best image that represents innovative science and has the „cool“ factor. The deadline for submission is June 1, 2009.

Time-resolved Fluorescence Spectroscopy

April 15, 2009

PicoQuants 7th Short Course on Principles and Applications of Time-resolved Fluorescence Spectroscopy, taking place from Nov. 9-12, 2009, in Berlin, Germany is intended for individuals wishing an introduction of the basics of fluorescence spectroscopy and its applications to the Life Sciences. The course is held in cooperation with Dr. J.R. Lakowicz from the Center of Fluorescence Spectroscopy (CFS) in Baltimore. It will focus on time-resolved spectroscopy applications (i.e. measurements on bulk samples). Registration deadline is Aug. 31, 2009.

Workshop on Single Molecule Spectroscopy

März 26, 2009

For the 15th time now, PicoQuant is hosting the International Workshop on Single Molecule Spectroscopy and Ultrasensitive Analysis in the Life Sciences. The workshop will take place from Sep. 15-18, 2009 in Berlin-Adlershof, WISTA campus, Germany. Topics that will be covered during the talks and a poster session are: Fluorescence Lifetime Correlation Spectroscopy (FLCS), Pulsed Interleaved Excitation (PIE) and Stimulated Emission Depletion Spectroscopy (STED), two-photon excitation, new and robust fluorophores such as quantum dots, metalfluorophore interactions, analysis of living cells, investigation of protein folding and biological function studies of macromolecules and Foerster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET).

PerkinElmer Opens Center of Excellence in Singapore

März 3, 2009

As part of its commitment to helping advance drug discovery and life sciences research in Asia, PerkinElmer announced the inauguration of a new Center of Excellence (COE) in Singapore. The Center will serve as a training and knowledge sharing facility for life sciences researchers located throughout the Pacific Rim. It will provide advanced solutions in the areas of automation and detection, cellular imaging and analysis, and drug discovery and research reagents.

World of Photonics

Februar 13, 2009

In June 2009, two international events for optical technologies in Europe will once again take place in Munich, Germany. From June 15-18, the New Munich Trade Fair Centre will host the exposition „LASER World of PHOTONICS“ and from June 14-19 the „World of Photonics Congress“ will be held at the International Congress Centre Munich. Both events address to representatives from research, the laser and optoelectronics industries, professionals involved in medicine and technology as well as physicists, chemists, doctors, engineers, system designers, retail companies and service-providers. This year, the trade show and the congress have expanded their offerings for biophotonics and life sciences. The trade show is setting up an exhibition focus area dedicated to the subject of biophotonics. The World of Photonics Congress will present the field of biophotonics at the „Medical Laser Applications“ conference. Experts in the field of lasers in medicine, optical diagnostics, high-end endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery will give practically orientated presentations.
